A LOCAL female-led home maintenance company is looking to ‘redress the balance’ by providing a female approach to the painting and decorating industry.
Lilly Dixon-Newport is utilising her home improvement company Lillypad Home Solutions in Frome to actively encourage more women into an industry that is traditionally male dominated, and she says that her clients are appreciative of a female energy when it comes to painting and decorating and having workpeople in the home.
“I think having that mix of male and female in the workplace works really well, and mixing genders is common in most other places, but for some reason this particular industry is staunchly male dominated. Having the balance between the masculine and feminine is key in all aspects of life and is sadly lacking here,” said Lilly.
“We are here to redress the balance and to say to women that there can be a place for you in this kind of work. I am really keen to help women understand that we do not have to fight for our space here, that it is already there, and we just need to be given the platform and confidence to step up and take it’.
“We are not exclusively female and are fortunate to work closely with businesses that are male dominated but we find that we bring something different in terms of the energy we provide, and we create an environment for everyone to thrive.
“In our experience, some people feel more comfortable with a female team in their homes and we try to understand and read the needs of each individual client. We are honoured to say that people tell us they feel relaxed with us around, that they miss us when we leave and that they massively appreciate our attention to details.
“As I came from a family business, I have really tried to install those family values into Lillypad Home Solutions and my whole ethos is about creating a family feeling for both the workers and the customers so that they know we are doing a job that we are proud of each time. I like to think we have a personal touch as we really get to know our clients. I’ve never done anything that I’ve loved more than this!”
