At the sometimes frantic, generally hilarious, Frome Festival Quiz, the team Three As and a C swept the board for the third successive year, 11 points ahead of Simple Minds, previous winners in 2012, beating new entrants Marshall Islanders by 6 marks.
The three “supporting teams” , quiz maestro Paul Hewitt’s term for the tailenders, were No Eye Deah, Frome Flyer and The Coven, who are very regular supporters.
Marjorie Morris of the Frome Festival sponsorship team said, “Among the 19 competing teams, we particularly liked the “interesting” choices of names, among them; Still Too Young for a Bungalow, Fanny The Wonder Dog and Table for Three. The last-named trio intrigued the other competitors by arriving with the ingredients of a full 3-course meal, which they proceeded to enjoy throughout the evening!
“A splendid raffle, with good support from local firms, included meal vouchers for 2 from The Archangel and Bistro Lotte, a beautiful white jasmine from Barter’s Plant Centre and such a generous collection of cheeses from Dan Price of Somerset Deli, whose cheese stall is to be found in Frome’s Wednesday and Saturday markets, that the organisers agreed it had to become two separate prizes. The Festival would like to express its appreciation of the continuing generous support from Frome’s local businesses, whether financial or in kind. We couldn’t manage without you!
“Bob Morris, Festival chairman, presented the winning team with the Martin Bax shield and 4 bottles of good wine to enjoy at home. He thanked Pete Lippiatt and his team at the Rugby Club for their usual hospitality and of course Paul and his “little helpers.” All – whether prizewinners or not, were united in agreeing that it had, as always, been a thoroughly enjoyable evening.”
