THE next Film Club at the Westway Cinema for people with special needs will take place on 7th September following a break for the school summer holidays.
The Film Club was the idea of local carer Claire Burge who felt people with learning difficulties or special needs were missing out on the experience of going to the cinema. The first took place in June and was a huge success.
Claire said, “I was so pleased with how the first event went. We had 13 people come to watch The Mummy and everyone said they had a really good time and they really enjoyed it. I had calls straight after asking when the next one will be!
“We knew most of the people and their carers that came along but there were a few faces we didn’t recognise which was nice to see. We hope lots more people come along and support it because they we know it can continue.
“Posters will go up around the town nearer the time with what film will be shown or you can call me on 01373 452965. Tickets cost just £4 per person. If anyone who wishes to come has special requirements, then do get in touch and I will try and help. Wheelchair access is limited so please call to check availability. Anyone with a learning disability or special needs from the age of 18+ are welcome but it is an unstaffed event, so a carer or family member will need to accompany them.”
