SUPERHERO and fantasy fans have a brand new event to look forward to this summer as preparations are under way for Frome’s first ever ‘Comic Con.’
Local company Norté Promotions, which ran the recent superhero meet-and-greet and ‘Cosplay Cabaret,’ is organising a multi-venue Comic Con in Frome on Sunday 14th August.
Organiser Nancy Norté said, “We are planning on hosting this in a number of venues, each with different themes relating to the world of comics, film, TV and games. There will be something for everyone whether your thing is Harry Potter, Star Wars, Super Heroes, the Comic World, Ghostbusters and Vintage.
“It is the world of Cosplay and we are bringing it to Frome!”
A ‘Comic Con’ is a comic convention which sees film and comic fans come together, often in fancy dress or ‘cosplay’, to play games, meet creators, and celebrate their favourite characters.
Nancy continued, “There are successful events running like this all over the country in large cities, but we are inviting the whole town to take part and be involved. This will bring business to the town for pubs, venues, shops and traders.
“Whereas most conventions take place under one roof, we want to invite outsiders to experience as much of Frome as possible, taking them on a spectacular tour of what our town has to offer.
“So far, confirmed venues are a Family Cosplay Cabaret at the Memorial Theatre; tickets on sale now; and the Silk Mill scare tour, evening adult entertainment. There will also be a ‘Create your own Superhero’ competition at The George and Granary. Cordero Lounge is hosting Star Wars, The Archangel is The Batcave and The Cornerhouse for Game of Thrones.
“There will be many Cosplayers, prop-makers and artists flooding Frome that day, with guest spots from actors and artists.”
Nancy’s partner and co-organiser Russ Ellingham said, “After our extremely well-received event on Easter Sunday at the Cheese & Grain, we want to bring it back to the town so anyone that missed out can come down to this much larger event. We are lucky to have the support across many establishments in Frome.”
