In the last year or so it has become more and more important that something must be done about the incomprehensible amount of waste that we as a species create.
On a global and a local level, we need to come to the realisation that so much of this waste could be upcycled, repurposed and remade, giving old and unwanted items the kiss of life and reviving them for people to enjoy into the future. Projects looking to find solutions to this problem have been springing up all over the world and now there is one in Frome.
Students on edventure Frome’s Start-Up Repair course, have created an open workshop, a place for doers, fixers, makers and breakers.
Based out of The Welsh Mill Hub on Park Lane Drive, Remakery Frome offers a space for people to come and work, to create, build, sew and fix amongst other forms of making, in a warm, welcoming and friendly environment. In the future, the space hopes to host tutored classes and sessions.
“The Remakery Frome is being launched this week with a week-long festival of events (23rd-27th May) celebrating the arts of sustainable fixing, remaking, upcycling and traditional crafts,” said Van Wajsblum
“It will all be rounded off with the official launch party on Sunday the 28th May featuring food and local music, as well as several opportunities for you to take part and explore this wonderful new venture.”
Festival attractions will include woodwork sessions, a day dedicated to textiles and the art of crochet, computer repair sessions and even the children will be kept busy with an instrument-making workshop.
The week ends on Sunday the 28th May with the Remakery Frome official launch party featuring local music acts, healthy food from Edgy Veggies, and a whole load more to investigate on the day.
