A BALL, the signifier of football, is being passed through communities in the run-up to each World Cup, and was passed through Frome, where it was signed by Fairtrade Frome representative, Judy Annan.
Since 2002, the World Cup ball has been kicked and signed by tens of thousands of people in hundreds of communities in over 50 countries across five continents. This year, The Ball 2018 – Football’s Olympic Torch, is travelling for its fifth journey to the FIFA World Cup, visiting Frome on its way to the World Cup in Russia.
Judy Annan, from Fairtrade Frome, was the lucky one chosen to add to the various signatures – including the President of Germany – to the Fairtrade ball.
After visiting Frome, the ball was continuing on its journey to the World Cup in Moscow, via Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East and the Caucasus.
The 2018 theme is Empathy; and the ball will explore this through the experience of displaced people; the journeys that they have made and the challenges they continue to face. The journey will highlight the extraordinary work that is being done using football to help these people find a new home and build new communities.
Judy Annan of Fairtrade Frome said, “Fairtrade Frome wishes the ball a fantastic journey to Moscow”
