Four wins out of 4

Frome Town Ladies FC’s impressive pre season form continued on Sunday 9th August when they made it 4 wins out of 4 with a comfortable 3-1 victory away at Portishead Town Ladies.

Manager Tim Davis continued his policy of rotating players around and brought in Lisa Burges to partner Karen Perkins at centre back, Zoe Porch to play alongside Elle Saunders in a holding midfield role, and 16 year old debutante Chloe Oldrid to play up front. Frome started quickly and soon took the lead through Suzanne Beavin, who used her pace to get to the ball ahead of the onrushing Portishead keeper, and slid the ball past her. Beavin doubled the lead after 20 minutes following good build up work from Oldrid.

Oldrid then went close with a header before she scored on the half hour mark with a neat finish.

With the game all but over Frome took their foot off the pedal in the second half but should still have increased their lead considerably as Oldrid, Beavin, Ali Bryant and Elle Saunders all went close.

With time running out the spirited Portishead team got reward for their efforts when a long range strike gave Hannah Christer in the Frome goal no chance.

Frome Town Ladies FC made it three wins out of three in pre season friendlies when they managed a tremendous 2-1 victory against the might of FA Women’s Premier League club Southampton Saints.

Frome were major underdogs going into the game against their prestigious opponents, but the Frome youngsters seemed to relish this fact and tore into Southampton right from the kick off.

In the early exchanges, the Saints were hard pressed to deal with Frome’s high tempo all action pressing style of play, and Frome took a deserved lead after 20 minutes through 17 year old Georgia Williams, who wriggled free in the penalty box and rammed the ball home. Soon after the lead was doubled when the ball ran free to Annie Redding at the back post and she made no mistake.

In all honesty more goals could have followed as Williams, Elinor Mason, Bethan Jones and Sarah Lewendon all had great efforts saved by the Southampton keeper.

The second half saw Southampton coming more into the game and enjoying the majority of possession, but Frome looked dangerous on the counter attack and looked the more likely to score with Williams, Becci Vallard and Steph Isaacson all going close.

The Frome defence with Nieve Edwards and Elle Saunders particularly outstanding held firm, and goalkeeper Hannah Christer was only sporadically called into action but showed great handling when called upon.

Southampton got a reward for their efforts in the last minute with a wonder goal which was struck from fully 30 yards, but nothing could be taken away from a magnificent performance from Frome.
