A free talk and panel discussion on the foundations of an alternative economic system is due to be held next week in Frome with the former managing director of the Bristol Pound.
Diana Finch will be discussing her book Value Beyond Money, which is an exploration of the city-wide currency, The Bristol Pound, and rethinks what money is and does.
The talk on Tuesday 12th November at 7.30pm in Frome Town Hall will be followed by a panel discussion and a chance to mingle.
The talk is organised and hosted by Sustainable Frome, Green and Healthy Frome, Frome Town Council and builds on the work of Keep it Frome and the ‘Doughnut Economics’ Group.
Project manager at Green and Healthy Frome, Becky Lovegrove, said, “Diana’s book takes the reader on a journey from the initial idea of creating a city-wide local currency to the heyday of the Bristol Pound as the largest local currency in the UK and on through the various challenges and problems that led to its eventual demise. Around this very human story, the author explores many of the ideas included in the terms ‘new economics’ and ‘alternative economics’ and looks ahead to the changes that are needed in our economic thinking if we are to create a system that allows the planet to regain a stable environment and rebalance the many inequalities that the current economic system has created.
