The winners have been announced in Frome’s first pet photo competition organised by Bath Cats and Dogs Home’s fundraising group.
Bath Cats and Dogs Home volunteers were thrilled to see so many cute, funny and festive photos being entered into their photo competition and, on Monday 12th December, they had the tough job of choosing the winners.
The judging panel, made up of volunteers who form the charity’s local fundraising group, and a representative from Bath Cats and Dogs Home, spent the morning mulling over the photos and deciding on the winners.
There were five categories including ‘Best Pet Selfie’, ‘Best Festive Photo’, ‘Best Friend Photo’, ‘Cutest Photo’ and ‘Funniest Photo’ with a winner and runner up for each. The overall winner and pet photo star of Frome was then picked from these entries.
Sue Willis from the group said, “It was really tough choosing the best overall photo but in the end we just had to go for Grandpaw Holt and Archie the Jack Russell.
“Their picture really demonstrates the amazing bond between humans and animals, visualising the phrase man’s best friend.
“It was wonderful to see so many Frome people getting involved and entering their pictures, and thank you to everyone that either popped into the charity shop to enter their photo or submitted an entry online.”

The photo competition is one of several events the group have organised this year and Sue Willis adds, “We hope to make the photo competition an annual event in Frome’s calendar around Christmas time. It’s a great way to showcase some of Frome’s fantastic pets that are lucky to already have loving homes, but it’s also a great way to raise vital funds to keep Bath Cats and Dogs Home open over the cold winter months.”
The Frome community fundraising group was formed earlier this year and is made up of local Frome residents that love animals and want to make a difference to their local rescue centre.
The group raises awareness of the charity, whose work spans 650 square miles across Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire including Frome, as well as raising funds to help cover the charity’s £1.3 million annual running costs.
Zena Jones, fundraiser at Bath Cats and Dogs Home says, “The Frome community group has had a great first year and already has exciting plans for 2017. New members are always welcome so if you are local to Frome, love animals and want to help unwanted local pets, and can spare just a few hours each month, please do get in touch about becoming a member.”
