HI everyone and welcome to my first autumn column. As I hope you are all aware, September is national Catch the Bus Month. You can still travel for just £2 for a single fare until the 31st October and then for only £2.50 from 1st November. It’s great to see the buses being used and the best way to protect your bus services is to use them.
As you read this, I will have attended the 40 Year celebrations of Twinning between Frome and Murrhardt by kind invitation of my counterpart, mayor of Murrhardt, Bürgermeister Armin Müßner. I will follow this up with a report and pictures in my next column.
I recently attended the welcome service for revd Andrew Prout at Wesley Methodist Church. I had the opportunity to welcome Andrew on behalf of Frome Town Council and hope to meet up with him soon.
Last year’s mayor, cllr Sara Butler, had told me that the Frome in Bloom presentation evening would be a “real delight” and it certainly was, with such amazing gardening talent and displays from around Frome. Thank you to chair Ray and the committee members for inviting me.
I am looking forward to Cheese and Grain’s 25th birthday community party on Sunday 17th September. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, do so as they are selling fast. Families are welcome.
When the Frome Street Carnival committee asked for help, I could not refuse. I grabbed a bucket and was part of the collecting team at the last Independent Sunday Market. Be sure to support the carnival in any way you can and enjoy the processions that take place on Saturday 23rd September. I am looking forward to walking the procession this year with my bucket in hand!
I am still volunteering and would urge as many of you who would like to volunteer, to contact local groups and charities to see how you can help, even if it is for an hour or so a week. I will also be cleaning more bus shelters around the town. Please contact me if you would like to help clean your local bus shelter.
So, as autumn is now with us and the nights are drawing in, be sure to check on each other and offer any support you can. As always, take care and contact me or my colleagues if we can help in any way.
Councillor Philip Campagna
