FROME Amnesty group are pleased to report on two successful events held recently.
One was in town, where members of the public signed over 50 letters on behalf of two prisoners of conscience, people who have been jailed for their beliefs, in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. We also attended the Somerset Trades Council Solidarity Day, alongside Wells Amnesty Group, to celebrate working together to improve citizens’ rights at home and internationally.
On Saturday 18th November, we will be taking part in Amnesty International’s annual Write for Rights campaign, in Frome Market Place. We will be sending cards directly to prisoners who are in jail for defending human rights. It has been found that conditions have improved for prisoners whose cases are highlighted and some have eventually been released.
We have also sent a specially designed card to Sarah Dyke, our new MP, to remind her to keep human rights, both at home and abroad, at the heart of all she does in Parliament.
