FROME runner, Emily Diamond, a British track and field athlete who runs 200m and 400m, has been selected for the Commonwealth Games in 2018 to run in the 4x400m relay.
Emily won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4x400m event, alongside her British teammates, last year in Rio. She followed this up with a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in August, so high hopes are being placed on Emily to do well in Australia at the Commonwealth Games next year. The Commonwealth Games will begin on Wednesday 4th April and finish on Sunday 15th April, with coverage being shown on BBC.
Emily told Frome Times, “I am really looking forward to the Commies next year. I took part in the last Commies in Glasgow and it was a great event as it feels like a mini-Olympics. Our England team have a great relay squad, so hopefully we can come away with a medal. I’m also hoping that there will be an opportunity for me to run the individual 400m as well, but that it still to be confirmed.”
