AFTER almost 20 years of entertaining audiences across the world, the Frome-based Beatles tribute act Sgt. Pepper’s Only Dart Board Band are to retire.
The group who formed in 1995 have become one of the most well-known Beatles tribute bands in the world, having made global news in 2009 when they were invited to lead thousands of Beatles fans across the famous zebra crossing in Abbey Road, London, to mark the 40 year anniversary of the original group crossing the same road – an image that become synonymous with the Beatles after it was used on their Abbey Road album cover.
The five piece group, which is made up of Martin Dimery (John Lennon), John Freeman (Paul McCartney), Colin Holley (George Harrison), Colin Chalk (Ringo Starr) and Rob Waller as (Sgt. Pepper), have performed at many events in Britain, Europe and in the USA.
They are currently on one last tour that will culminate in their traditional New Year’s Eve performance at the Cheese and Grain in Frome that will also be the last time they take to the stage.
Tour manager Tom Sangster said, “The band is going back to venues they’ve played many times before to say thank you to people there who have supported the band over the last 20 years. It will be sad to pack in but the band aim to go out with a bang and enjoy these last gigs.”
