Frome’s branch of Save the Children charity is currently celebrating its 45th anniversary.
The branch continues to host their popular monthly stall of cards and bric-a-brac in the Cheese and Grain on the second Thursday morning of every month, which raises around £1,000 for the charity every year, as well as other activities such as a stall at the Corsley Show. The small but dedicated Frome branch includes one of the original founder members, Angela Daniel, who is still very active in all the branch’s activities. One of the recent highlights for the branch has been a visit by three of its representatives to Mapperton House, Beaminster, where they met HRH The Princess Royal, President of Save The Children.Marjorie Morris of the Frome branch said, “45 years is pretty impressive, and the fact Angela is still going strong is impressive as well. “I think there’s a general enthusiasm that Save the Children is quite important for work both overseas and in this country.”To mark this important milestone the group is holding a curry night at the Jhalmuri restaurant in Palmer Street, Frome on Wednesday 25th April from 7pm. The branch is welcoming people to come and celebrate their 45 years with them, and funds from the evening will help Save the Children’s campaign to build and staff clinics in Bangladesh.
