Three care workers in Frome were acknowledged at the Somerset Care Group’s annual ceremony, which recognises staff from across the group for their outstanding achievements, contribution and dedication.
Over 420 nominations were received this year, more than 100 than were received in the previous year. Of those nominations, three staff members from the Frome area were shortlisted by the judging panel.
Toni Priddle, who works at Rowden House care home, was announced as the winner of the ‘Best Newcomer’ award. Toni received a number of nominations from colleagues praising her commitment, enthusiasm to learn and the additional mile she goes to make a difference to the lives of the residents at the Frome care home.
From Somerset Care’s Mendip home care team, Sarah Whittington and Natasha Sumner, were announced as joint winners of the ‘People’s Choice’ award. The ‘People’s Choice’ award was open to nominations from customers and their family. Sarah and Natasha were nominated by a family member of a gentleman they support. Both Sarah and Natasha have made a big impact on supporting him to make the most of his life with hobbies, activities and trips out, as well as supporting the family.
The Somerset Care Group Awards was held at the Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton and hosted by local VIP, Ben McGrail, Somerset correspondent for ITV News West Country.
Over 130 guests attended the ceremony, which included a three-course lunch and presentations from Somerset Care Group chief executive, Jane Townson, and the group’s newly appointed chairman, Angela Dupont.
Speaking on the ceremony, chief executive, Jane Townson said, “Thanks to the internet and social media, we now live in a highly connected and transparent world. Organisations are like glass boxes. People outside can easily see what’s going on inside.
“To be successful, we need to create a company we’re happy for the world to see through; one with great values and great systems, put into practice by exceptional people, who are happy at work.
“Our annual staff awards event celebrates some of the exceptional people we have in Somerset Care. It’s my favourite event of the year, as we hear numerous stories of extraordinary kindness, compassion and service, which illustrate how we’re fulfilling our mission to enhance quality of life and promote independence of older and disabled people. We would be delighted for the world to see what these exceptional people do day in and day out. Our heartfelt thanks go to all our staff for their passion, commitment and dedication to those we serve.”
