Frome Care Village moving in the right direction

FOLLOWING a rating of ‘Inadequate’ earlier in the year, the latest report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) shows Frome Care Village has made improvements.

Earlier in the year, Frome Care Village received ‘Requires Improvement’ for their caring and responsiveness, but their safety, effectiveness, and leadership were all branded ‘Inadequate.’

However, in the recent report published in November, they received ‘Good’ for their caring and safety and ‘Requires Improvement’ for effectiveness, responsiveness and leadership.

The report found that staff were available to support and assist people in a timely manner and that people felt safe living in the home. It also found people were supported by caring and professional staff and people’s dignity and privacy is respected and promoted by staff.

The report said, “People told us they always received their medicines when they were needed. One person told us “I get my tablets at the right time, they make sure I take them as well.” There were the appropriate arrangements for the storage, management and administration of medicines.

“There was a calmer, more relaxed atmosphere in the service with people being “happier” and “calmer”. People were benefiting from this calmer atmosphere through less agitated or distressed behaviour and improved interactions between people and staff.

“There were inconsistencies in ensuring the effective management of the care needs of people who had diabetes specifically those who were diet controlled. We have recommended the service consults guidance about supporting people who have diabetes.”

Dave Watkins who works at Frome Care Village said, “The care has gone from inadequate to good. This is purely down to every member of staff working very, very hard to turn things around. We have proved that we give good care to the people that live at Frome Care Village and that is the be all and end all of any decent care home.”
