Following her success at the Somerset Care Group Awards, Frome care worker, Jo Perkins has been announced as a winner at the Great British Care Awards (South West region).
Jo works as a supervisor for Somerset Care’s home care team in the Frome area. Alongside providing support to a team of staff, she heads up the Emma Sheppard Centre, which provides day care support for people living with dementia. Jo was nominated by colleagues who praised her approach in supporting her team to feel more confident in their roles. Jo has also taken part in additional training and research to increase her knowledge and ensure that her customers are receiving high quality care and support.
She attended the regional awards ceremony at the end of last year, accompanied by her manager, Kelly, where she was officially announced as a winner in the ‘frontline leaders’ category.
Jo said: “I’m over the moon at being announced as the winner of a regional care award. I love working in the care industry because caring is a part of me. My favourite thing about working in care is leaving someone with a smile. I learnt very early on that people with dementia may not remember why they are happy, but the feeling and sense of wellbeing will stay with them.”
In March, Jo will attend the final awards ceremony to hear whether she is a national winner.
