Firstly, we would like to wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy New Year.
Wow – what a whirlwind of a year we have all had. The safety of everyone is of utmost importance to us. We are all fully aware that although at times challenging, difficult and disappointing – we understand why the current restrictions are in place and will need to continue to keep us all safe, for at least the first few months of the year – possibly longer. We must all continue to play our part in this process.
We remain optimistic that as the vaccination programme continues its roll out and reaches more and more people, far and wide – we are hopeful that the infection rates, which currently threaten our wonderful community, will gradually begin to fall. With this positive outlook – let’s hope that the Government restrictions lift swiftly, enabling us to slowly resume some sort of normality and to re-start our fundraising events as soon as it is safe to do so.
We are aiming to be able to kickstart our fundraising with our grand annual family fun day. We also plan to re-start our monthly quizzes, which are kindly hosted and organised by the team at the Masons Arms. These events, plus others – help us to raise the vital funds that are needed to enable us to hold our September Street Carnival processions. The money that is collected from the street collection and kindly given by the generous public that line our streets in their thousands to watch our procession, is then used to help local groups and organisations. Although we were unable to hold our 2020 Carnival, we were still able to donate using money raised in previous fundraising events. During 2020 we managed to donate and help Fair Frome, the YMCA, Active and in Touch and more recently we have just donated £200 to help boost the Purple Elephant Toy Library Appeal.
Let’s hope 2021 is kind and allows us to continue our charity’s vital contribution to our fabulous town. We will also continue with our 100 club, which for just 50p per week – you are not only helping to support a much-valued charity, you are also in with a chance of winning a sum of money by being automatically entered into a monthly 100 club draw.
We do need more volunteers and we are looking for new committee members to help us with fundraising, publicity & website co-ordination. All our committee members/volunteers are DBS checked and also join forces with other Carnivals within the South West area, helping with marshalling the crowds and judging of the entrants. Volunteering work also looks great on a CV.
Please get in touch to join our 100 club, volunteer or with any other ideas/ fundraising suggestions by messaging our Frome Street Carnival Facebook Page, or via email: info@fromecarnival.org.uk, or please contact our Chairman June Barnes on: 01373 461625.
