The Frome Carnival Family Fun Day will now be held on Saturday 19th July, after it was cancelled earlier this month due to heavy rain.
Held annually at Victoria Park, the event was due to run on 7th June. However, the carnival team – with support from Frome Town Council – postponed the event to wait for clearer weather, ensuring the festivities could be enjoyed by residents and the ground protected.
“We are looking forward to holding the event next month and welcoming the community to join us for all the usual activities, including the dog show, bonniest baby competition and the selection of this year’s carnival royalty – plus local stalls, charities and performances from Frome groups,” said Mandy Morgan, of Frome Street Carnival.
New to the fun day this year is the carnival team’s very own ride-on train. “We were previously borrowing the Lions’ train. Harry, our shed manager, had the opportunity to purchase a ride-on lawnmower, and he’s done it up into a train. It looks great.”
With around a £2,000 shortfall this year, the carnival team are keen to raise as much money as possible at this year’s Family Fun Day. “We really need a good fun day,” said Mandy. “The Food Festival has very kindly let us have a stall where we sell cakes, and we usually make some money there too. We are also hoping to hold a few bingo events.”
The Frome Carnival is also raising funds this year for the Under-7s football team, the Macular Society and the army cadets, who are all due to receive cheques.
