PREPARATIONS are under way for Frome Carnival 2017 and the committee is appealing for people to volunteer to help, whether for an hour a year or as a full committee member.
The carnival committee has confirmed that this year’s event will go ahead, following a successful appeal for new committee members.
The committee’s new volunteer co-ordinator, Emily Denne says, “We know that many people don’t have time to join a committee and attend monthly meetings, but they might be very willing to help steward the carnival on the night or staff a stall at our annual fun day for example.
“I’m therefore appealing for people to join a sort of volunteer database! It will allow us to keep in touch with everyone about what the committee is doing and anything that we might need help with. Whether you can manage to do one hour over the year or every single event, we’d love to hear from you.”
You can also support the carnival by joining its ‘100 supporters club’ scheme. For £2 per month, people are given a number to be entered into a monthly draw, which will draw two winners. The first prize is £30 and the second £20. Profits from the 100 club go directly towards putting the carnival on.
Emily added, “Many people don’t realise just how unique Frome Carnival is; money taken on carnival day doesn’t just go to putting on the carnival, but instead to its own charity – Frome Carnival Charity. The charity uses this money to help local people and organisations – putting the money back into the town and local community. It recently gave an incredible £5,000 donation to Fair Frome!
“The committee fundraises throughout the year in order to raise the money needed to put on the carnival; costs include paying for advertising and fuel, employing bands and acts, and ensuring legal requirements such as insurance are met.”
If you can help – by joining the volunteer list or participating in the 100 club – contact the committee via their ‘Frome Carnival’ Facebook page or email info@fromecarnival.org.uk.
