IT is that time of year again when carnival preparations begin, starting with the Frome Carnival Family Fun Day and Dog Show on Saturday 1st June at Victoria Park. The event raises funds for local charities and goes towards the costs of the popular Frome Street Carnival in September.
Join in the fun from 12pm to 5pm, where over 25 stalls for local businesses, groups and charities will be set up around the park. As part of the event, this year’s carnival royalty will be selected alongside the annual Bonny Baby competition and the fun family dog show.
Carnival Royalty will be selected in the following categories: Prince and Princess aged between 8 and 12 years old; Gran and/or Grandad; Ambassadors, aged 13 and upwards.
All entrants must reside within eight miles of Frome and be available for ad hoc events throughout the year, and the main carnival on Saturday 21st September. The royalty remains in place until 2025 selection.
Frome’s bonniest baby will also be selected in the categories of up to 9 months and 9-18 months. The organisers said, “The winning baby from each category will have a starring role travelling in Gav’s Taxi in our carnival children’s procession.”
Babies must reside within eight miles of Frome and be available from 2pm on Saturday 21st September.
The Fun Family Dog Show will also take place with pets judged in some of the following categories; Best in Show and Reserve; Best Puppy under 12 months; and Dog the Judge Would Like to Take Home. Registration is from 12pm and judging takes place from 1pm. It costs £2.50 per class, or £5 for 10 classes.
