THE Kindness Festival that ran from 16th to 22nd March has been hailed as a ‘huge success’ by organisers, The Good Heart, Frome’s community centre for kindness.
Over the course of the festival, more than 3,000 local people took part in over 50 events, including workshops, film screenings, school visits, kindness talks and lectures including a talk from ‘legend’ of British cinema, writer and director, Ken Loach, and musical performances from Frome Street Bandits, Jazz Morley and Scallop Shells Children’s Choir.
Each day of the festival was focused on a new theme to do with kindness, including: kindness and the community; kindness to ourselves; kindness and social change; kindness at work; kindness to health and wellbeing; and kindness to the planet.
New to the festival this year was the Kind Bank, a vibrant festival hub located in the former HSBC building, offering a unique twist on traditional banking by dealing exclusively in acts of kindness rather than cash.
Director of The Good Heart, Alison Murdoch, said, “The team at The Good Heart would like to thank everyone who made this year’s Kindness Festival possible: our amazing Kindness Crew volunteers, the many generous event leaders and venue managers, all the Frome organisations who collaborated with us or donated their services, and our kind funders (including Frome Town Council).
“We had over 50 events and school visits that were enjoyed by more than 3,000 local people during the week.”
