It’s been a busy few weeks for Frome Running Club with members taking part in events across the country, including this year’s London Marathon.
Sunday 23th April heralded the start of one of the world’s largest sporting events, the London Marathon. Five runners from Frome Running Club were among the nearly 40,000 runners taking part in the 26.2-mile course through the capital. Lee Stone (M40-44) was the first Frome club runner across the line, coming in just above the 3-hour mark with a time of 03:00:01. Keith Robinson (M 65-69) finished soon after in 03:11:51, making him the third fastest runner in his category. Sally Brooker (F50-54) finished in 05:06:15, followed by Chris Chivers (M 18-39) in 05:21:09 and Lynette Grimstead (F45-49) in 05:43:33.
On the same day over in Wiltshire, the 35th Corsham St George’s 10K was taking place. Anthony Sprules (VM60) finished in 00:41:51 to take first in category. Hot on his heels was Stuart Clarke (VM40), who finished in 00:42:35. He was followed by Kathryn Clarke (FSEN) in 00:47:44, Adrian Mead (VM40) in 00:49:40, Victoria Penman (VF40) in 00:49:39, Peter Reed (VM40) in 00:53:22, Anne Porter (VF50) in 00:58:43 and Felicity Young (VF50) in 01:00:51.
Last month, the Yeovil Easter Bunny 10K gave some runners the ideal opportunity for local runners to burn off any chocolate eggs or simnel cake consumed over the Easter period.
The fast flat course is ideal for PBs and Frome’s club runners did not disappoint.
Katherine Uphill (FSEN) was the first Frome Club athlete to cross the line in a time of 00:38:22, earning herself second position in category. Anthony Sprules (MV60) followed in 00:41:29, also bagging second in category. Judith Cooper (FV45) passed the finish line in 01:11:24. Five days later, on Saturday, 22nd April, Frome runner Shane Ford (MSEN) took to the starting line for the Southampton Half Marathon, completing the 13.1 miles in an outstanding time of 01:41:15.
