WHEN the letter arrived at the head office of Radstock Co-operative Society requesting support for a John O’Groats to Land’s End bike challenge, Vicki Przytocki, head of HR and communications was determined that the society should make some contribution to the fund-raising efforts.
Two local lads, Luke Nolan and Carl Luke will attempt to complete a gruelling 900 mile cycle ride in six days, which commenced on 1st July. The aim of the bike ride is to raise money for the charity, PAC, Positive Action on Cancer, which is a free one-to-one counselling service for anyone affected by the diagnosis of cancer or other life-threatening illness.
The counselling staff at PAC are professionally trained, experienced and adhere to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or alternative professional body standards. They provide adult counselling at venues in Frome, Bath, Warminster and Trowbridge, children’s play therapy in Frome and counselling for young people at three local secondary schools.
Commenting on the fund-raising event Vicki said, “This is going to be quite a challenge for Luke and Carl as although the journey has been completed several times, they are hoping to cycle the length of Britain in just six days cycling an average of 150 miles per day.
“It’s going to be a feat which will place extreme demands on the body and which will require a lot of sustenance. So our donation of energy drinks, foods and snacks will hopefully provide them with the fuel they need to replace the estimated 4,000 calories per day that Luke and Carl will burn on their epic journey.
“We wish Luke and Carl every success in completing the challenge and raising money for PAC, this very deserving cause, which many local families have found great comfort in during extremely difficult times.”
