Frome College hosted its GCSE Certificate Presentation afternoon at the Frome Memorial Theatre last month and welcomed special guest speaker BBC presenter Sarah-Jane Bungay.
All students who sat their GCSE exams in the summer, together with their families, attended the formal event where their exam certificates were presented.
During the presentation, Principal, Mr Ball expressed his pride and congratulated the students on achieving the best GCSE results in the history of Frome College. Alongside the presentations, students performed a variety of musical accompaniment on the stage.
The college was delighted this year, to welcome the BBC television presenter Sarah-Jane Bungay as their guest of honour. Sarah-Jane has worked for the BBC for almost 20 years, taking roles on and off screen. She grew up in this area, taking GCSEs and A Levels at Frome College, and enjoyed acting in school productions in the campus Merlin Theatre.
After University at Cardiff where she studied History and then a postgraduate diploma in broadcasting, she moved to Southampton where her career at the BBC began. Sarah-Jane was offered a three week stint on a radio show, answering phones to listeners – 15 years later she was still at the BBC, but now reporting on major news stories and presenting bulletins in the studio.
Five years ago, Sarah-Jane moved to BBC Points West in Bristol and loves reporting on the area where she grew up. Her most exciting interview in recent years was speaking to another former Frome College student, Jenson Button, when he came home to drive a Formula 1 car through the streets of Frome.
Most recently Sarah-Jane produced this year’s ‘Children in Need’ output for the West. She said, “Working with a big yellow bear called Pudsey, was a breeze – he couldn’t answer back for a start!”
Following the formal presentation, refreshments were available for everyone in the Assembly Rooms, allowing everyone the opportunity to meet and catch up with friends and teachers.
The afternoon was enjoyed by all, in celebration of a highly successful year for Frome College.
