Frome College students were offered the opportunity to attend a community project with the Frome Rangers, who are a volunteering team associated with Frome Town Council.
The two-hour sessions have run for the last six weeks, where students helped with work for the Frome Rangers’ base at the Millennium Green area of Frome. The students were involved in the upkeep of the woodland area, including planting trees and shrubs, rebuilding pathways, trimming and pruning and creating new trail paths.
The college says, “The aim of the six-week course was to develop students’ knowledge, help them to work together as part of a team, learn new skills and take a sense of pride, involvement and ownership of their work. It will also be a fantastic addition to their CVs and will help with future employment.
“The students learnt felling, using a gob and hinge cut, to take down trees and make space for the landscape. They also learnt loping, in which they cut the branches off the trees, rebuilding pathways and improving animal habitats.
“The students really enjoyed working outside in a team and also learning about the environment. They worked really hard and should be very proud of themselves. Well done to all involved.”
