Frome’s volunteer driver scheme now has over 300 members, offers more than 180 lifts a month, and is looking for a new co-ordinator to take on and further develop the project.
Richard Fry the current co-ordinator said, “I have loved setting up Frome Community Cars. The service provides a life-line for many people and the volunteers get a lot out of being involved too. Now that I’m retiring, we would like to find a passionate person to take on the project and get more people involved.’
Anna Francis, Frome Town Council’s resilience manager, who helped to set up the scheme said, “Richard has done a fantastic job launching and running Frome Community Cars over the past year and half. We’ve had loads of positive feedback from people who use the service and who volunteer.
“We now need to find someone who will ensure this vital service continues and develops further to enable even more people to access the things they need. We’re always looking for new volunteers too, even an hour a month is fantastic, so do get in touch if you can help, all expenses are covered.’
The manager’s role is 20 hours a week, can be home-based and is open to job share.
