FROME-based company Celestial opened this year’s Glastonbury Festival with a spectacular drone show, with 576 drones forming artwork in the sky in front of a crowd of around 100,000 people at the Pyramid Stage field.
The show took place on Wednesday 26th June – the first day the site was open to festival-goers – and was the first-ever drone show at Glastonbury Festival. It covered themes of nature, peace, and unity and was a celebration of the world-renowned festival, depicting classic Glastonbury artwork.
“We also paid tribute to the mystical heritage of the area by flying the Glastonbury Tor and a Celtic mandala,” explained Celestial’s chief executive officer and founder, John Hopkins.
“Glastonbury is the festival of contemporary art and you don’t get much more contemporary than drone art. Our aim at Celestial is to unite people through a shared sense of wonder, so it was wonderful to see such an epic crowd at the show. The whole team at Celestial has worked hard for many years for the opportunity to bring this dream to reality. It’s been a privilege for Celestial to be part of the national treasure that is Glastonbury Festival. We hope we get invited back next year so we can evolve our show with the festival over time.
“Acclaimed local lighting director Patrick Woodroffe, who has worked with Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga and Elton John and is an old friend of the Eavis family, co-directed the show with us and was influential in helping Celestial land the gig, for which we are extremely grateful.”
