Can you code? If not, would you like to find out how? For anyone who would like to learn some basic programming skills a new evening class at Frome Town Hall offers a chance to do just that.
The courses are free and have been organised by computer science teacher Dan Harvey who on Tuesday evenings will swap his school classroom for Frome Town Hall.
Dan said, “During the day I teach programming to 11 to 18 year olds but I’d like to open this up and give anyone with an interest, the opportunity to learn to code.
“Computer systems affect all aspects of our lives and often require us to follow steps set out by other programmers. This is a chance to take control and make a computer do what you want it to!”
Those attending the classes will learn key programming concepts and will then be challenged to put them into practice with a range of fun exercises that use text-based programming language Python. No prior coding experience is necessary – Dan will cover everything you need to know to get started.
Classes will run from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday evenings beginning with two taster sessions on Tuesday 6th and 13th August where anyone can come along to find out what’s involved. After that, the classes will run as five weekly sessions with the first starting on 10th September.
