A FROME couple became super heroes for the day earlier this month to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
Rob and Sue Harrison joined hundreds of people to take part in the charity’s first Hospice Care Hero Walk in grounds of the Bath Spa University.
Rob, who is a long-term supporter of the charity, and Sue, were walking in memory of Rob’s first wife, Val, who the charity helped care for.
Rob said, “The Hospice Care Hero Walk was a brilliant event. Dorothy House cared for my wife Val in 1991 after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and the support and help I and my two daughters were given was second to none.
“I will never be able to repay them, but over the years I’ve supported the hospice by doing fundraising events such as the Bath Half Marathon and the Bath Men’s Walk.
“The Hero Walk was a challenge for me as in February I was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, but I really enjoyed taking part, thanks to the excellent venue and great organising by Dorothy House.”
The Hospice Care Hero Walk event will help to fund patient care at Dorothy House as the hospice expects an increase in patient numbers by 2025.
Emily Knight, event fundraiser at Dorothy House said, “We are thrilled that our first Hero Walk event was such a storming success. We loved our special guest storm troopers and Darth Vader from UK Garrison, all the fun and frolics at our Hero Zones and everyone looked amazing dressed up as their favourite heroes. Thank you to all the walkers who took part and raised vital funds for patient care at the hospice. Thanks also to all our Hero Zone entertainers and volunteers who supported the event, it’s much appreciated and we can’t wait for next year.”
