Saturday 23rd August. FA Trophy
Bashley 0-3 Frome Town
Another comfortable victory at the Veho Community Stadium, which saw Town progressing in the FA Trophy.
Manager Danny Greaves picked a rotated 11 due to the Bank Holiday league fixture against local rivals, Westbury United.
It took just three minutes for the Robins to take the lead; a pass from the left flank was met by Zac Drew, who struck the ball into the roof of the net. The first time a Frome player has scored four goals in a row since 2006!
Just ten minutes later, Ferris bagged the second of the game. Duru, on the right, placed a perfect ball for the No. 9 to slide both the ball and him into the goal, doubling the lead for the visitors.
There were patches in the 90 minutes where Bashley had the momentum with multiple chances to pull themselves back in the game but couldn’t capitalise.
Their most notable chance came from Whiteley. The No. 10 met the ball in the air, aimed into the ground, resulting in the ball bouncing on the hard surface and over the bar.
The half-time whistle was blown, and there was a two-nil lead heading into the break.
The Dodge scored a fantastic goal to secure the victory. Starting the move was Archie Ferris; his composure in the box gave a pass to Drew on the right flank. The No. 10 looks up at his options; his floating cross is met by Hopkins. The local lad fires the ball into the box to David Duru, who, at his first attempt, hits the keeper square on, but a fortunate rebound back to the Nigerian allows him to smash home his second goal in the New Forest this season.
Three changes were made in the 67th minute, and the goal was to rest players for the bank holiday tie. Dowling, Duru and Ferris were the men to be taken off.
Holiday came on for the No. 16 and was impactful; the Robins were in control for the remainder of the second half and gave Bashley no room to express themselves.
90 minutes was up, and a comfortable victory meant that Frome now travel to Hampshire, where Winchester awaits for the next round of the FA Trophy.
