A FROME woman has raised over £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care after completing a 420 mile cycle through Vietnam and Cambodia.
Wendy Jones completed the cycle from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Angkor Wat in Cambodia in just eight days raising £4,598.40, which with gift aid sent the total to £5,542.50.
Although Vietnam and Cambodia are nearing the end of their rainy seasons, the region remains very humid and temperatures can reach daily highs of over 30 degrees, which added to an already grueling challenge.
Wendy said, “It is absolutely amazing to complete the challenge and I was able to add an extra day’s cycle on the end. All the training paid off, but most of all I didn’t let anyone down that sponsored me and raising money for Macmillan really helps when energy levels are low.
“The whole trip was really enjoyable – from cycling though villages where children would shout and wave, to riding through jungle and tracks with the amazing temples in Angkor Wat. The heat was the biggest challenge, but we had plenty of water stops, and watermelon at just the right time.
“The fundraising total so far is amazing. I’m just so grateful for the support of friends, family and total strangers who have helped me raise this money – I couldn’t have done it without them.
“I am planning another challenge next year with Peru, Sri Lanka or Laos in my thoughts.
