Extra Sunday rail services for Frome

THERE’S good news for train users as from 27th March, there will be additional trains to and from Frome on Sundays. 

This includes a train from Bristol, Bath and Wiltshire arriving in Frome at 10.31, with return services running at 15.37 and 17.31, as well as the two additional evening services. It also means that day trips to Weymouth will now be possible on Sundays by train.

The new services will run until October, however, from mid-December they will recommence and continue all year. The additional services have been something Frome Town Council and the Independent Market have been requesting for a long time.

Other improvements are also in the pipeline. Frome Town Council has secured funding from First Great Western’s Customer and Communities Improvement Fund to increased access to the station and enable lower income households to access services more easily.

Signage and layout at the station is also being improved through money secured from Section 106 agreement and a new map and printed maps are also now available on the platform.

Anna Francis, Frome Town Council’s resilience officer said, “We are delighted that Frome will have new services on Sundays. However, as anyone using the station will know, there is a huge need for more trains throughout the week.

“Usage at the station has increased 180% in the last 7 years, with no increase in services. Road congestion at hubs such as Westbury at peak times is steadily increasing. We are working with First Great Western, South West Trains and the Department for Transport to ensure that Frome gets better services every day of the week.”
