GRANTS totalling over £65,000 have been awarded by Somerset County Council to help local communities deliver services across the county, benefitting two day centres in Mendip, one situated in Frome.
An award of £5,000 was recently made from Somerset County Council’s Community Enablement Fund to Personal Achievement and Creative Experience (PACE). The facility, formally known as The Gore Hedge Day Centre, provides day groups for people with physical disabilities and the grant will assist the groups to work towards becoming more independent.
The bid was successfully submitted by Frome county councillors, Maggy Daniell and Alvin Horsfall.
Cllr Daniell said, “This is a very motivated group who have already shown they can organise projects. I wish them well as they launch out independently.”
Cllr Horsfall added, “I would like to congratulate PACE on their successful application. The centre is an inspiration and I’m sure it will help many more adults with physical disabilities.”
Cabinet member responsible for setting up the fund, Cllr David Huxtable said, “The creation of the Community Enablement Fund has allowed us to support communities and organisations at a local level.
“We want to encourage more people to come forward with innovative projects and ideas to deliver quality, cost-effective services.”
