December was a very busy month for the Frome & District Day Centre as on the 5th we held the Christmas Bingo.
Then on the Thursday we were entertained in the afternoon by students from Kingswood School, Bath playing a wide range of musical instruments which was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Members of the Active in Touch joined us for lunch and an afternoon of musical entertainment.
On the following Monday 120 including guests sat down for an enjoyable Christmas lunch. Before lunch we were entertained by children from Berkley School singing Christmas carols and songs. On the way out each child received a bag of sweets. After lunch there was a presentation to the catering staff for their assistance throughout the year. This was followed by musical entertainment with singing and dancing where everyone was in the Christmas spirit.
On Wednesday 15th a number of members had a coach trip to Cheltenham, then on the way back called in at Cirencester to see the lights.
We had our last meal for 2016 on the 19th December. During the month we collected toys, sweets etc for the Fair Food Children to which members generously gave and they were distributed to children by Fair Frome before Christmas.
This ended a very busy year with various activities and projects before lunch and afternoons on Mondays and Thursdays. Monday Bingo, Flexercise, yoga plus many more projects and line dancing Thursdays.
We average around 150 members for lunch on these two days so why not join us for a good, hot cooked meal, for friendship and companionship, making new friends taking part in activities and getting out from the four walls?
We reopened for 2017 on January 5th so come along on any Monday or Thursday as everyone is welcome. We are again carrying on with our intergenerational project with students from Frome College, once a month sitting with the elderly, talking about the past and present of Frome etc and students discussing about the future. We apply for grants to pay the bills as we have no funding. We have no paid staff and are all volunteers giving our time and doing this for the benefit of the elderly in Frome and the community.
