A SERIES of watercolour paintings of doorways in Frome has been produced by local artist, John Birkett-Smith.
John is a retired architect and formerly the owner of Hunting Raven bookshop. He has lived in Frome for 35 years and, until about 10 years ago, he was one of the team that led the monthly Frome Society for Local Studies Town Walks. During the walks, he was attracted by the range of historic buildings that the town had to offer.
As a hobby, 20 or so years ago, John took up watercolour painting and became fascinated by the many interesting doorways in domestic and community buildings that he came across during his walks around the town. To date, John has completed 25 ‘Frome Doors’ paintings.
He said, “I have decided to offer the signed original paintings for sale. I will be at the Festival Summer Art Car Boot in the Market Yard on Sunday 10th July, 10am to 4pm.”
