Biddestone 1st XI won by 5 wickets Frome 1st XI – 109 all out (27 overs) Biddestone 1st XI – 110-5 (19.5 overs)
FROME 1st XI kicked off their 2022 campaign with a home friendly against Biddestone.
Frome won the toss on a cold, windy afternoon looking to put a score on the board and gain valuable practice before the league campaign begins in two weeks’ time. However, having won the toss, the innings did not get off to a good start with both openers being dismissed with the total on 26.
This brought in captain Mark Sanger who looked to rebuild after the early wickets but could only watch a flurry of wickets at the other end with some tight bowling from Biddestone putting pressure on a rusty looking batting lineup.
Frome managed to eventually get their total over 100, with only Sanger (25) and Callow (24*) making any contribution to the total, Biddestone bowled well throughout the innings and each bowler took at least 1 wicket which showed the continuous pressure that was applied.
In response Biddestone’s top order also struggled in the windy conditions, and Frome thought they had managed to drag themselves back into the game with the away side reduced to 50-5. This brought Evans and Boulton to the crease and together made batting look very easy and put together a match winning 60 run partnership.
Frome will be hoping that next week’s friendly allows them to have more time in the middle as well as allowing the bowlers to get overs in their legs before the new season gets underway.
Next fixture: Saturday 30th April, Warminster 1st XI (Away), 1pm start.
