Frome Film Club host a special film night on Wednesday 1st March 8pm at the Merlin Theatre, jointly presenting with Batcombe Film Society, ‘We Are Many’.
A bold, important documentary by Amir Amirani, We Are Many explores the legacy of the biggest global protest in history, the Stop the War demonstrations of 2003, when 15 million people worldwide took to the streets but failed to stop the Iraq war.
With a current global surge of mass demonstrations that feel more urgent than ever, this is a valuable and timely examination of how and if public opinion can shift power, and whether this historic event did in fact start a ripple that changed the world forever.
Tickets are £5, available on the door the night of the film (free to members of Frome Film Club and Batcombe Film Society).
On Wednesday 8th March at the Merlin Theatre 8pm, Frome Film Club is screening the Turkish film Mustang.
In a coastal village in northern Turkey, five orphaned sisters live with their grandmother and a bullying uncle in a large, seemingly idyllic house. Grounded after they are spotted by conservative locals playing innocently in the sea with a group of local boys, their home is turned by degrees into a prison, their life choices closed down by oppressive societal codes and family honour.
Raw and moving, this ultimately uplifting, beguiling film pulses with the exuberant, rebellious spirit of the five protagonists. Winner: 4 César Awards 2015 (including Best First Feature Film, Best Original Screenplay); Europa Cinemas Label Award, Cannes Film Festival 2015. 97 minutes, certificate 15, directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven.
Guest tickets available from Merlin Theatre box office for £6.50. Further details about Frome Film Club available at fromefilm.co.uk/index.html
