TWO Frome-based filmmakers are appealing for donations so they can release their latest horror film, which has been executively produced by the Hollywood star, Ian McKellen, in time for Halloween this year.
Matthew Butler-Hart and his wife Tori run the production company Fizz and Ginger Films and their latest creation, Dagr, is the couple’s fifth feature film. It stars Matt Barber of Downton Abbey and Ellie Duckles from Netflix drama The A List as fame-hungry YouTubers who unknowingly step into a haunted house which is plagued by a demonic druid.
Dagr sees two young women seeking internet stardom pose as catering staff on a fashion commercial in Wales. Their plan is to film themselves stealing all the expensive merchandise and post it on their YouTube channel – however when they arrive at the location there’s no one there. Seeing this as the perfect opportunity to set up hidden cameras and get started on the theft, they discover an iPad which holds footage of the commercial shot so far. But upon viewing the footage, their night descends into a paranormal nightmare.
The film is in the post-production stage and Matthew and Tori need some assistance to get the film ready for release in Halloween. They have launched a Kickstarter campaign that offers different awards for each donation received. For example, a £25 donation will get you a link to watch the film before it officially is released as well as a thank you credit, and a £50 donation will get a link to the film, a credit and also a signed DVD of Fizz and Ginger Films latest released project, Infinitum: Subject Unknown, which features cameos from Ian McKellen and Conleth Hill from Game of Thrones. There are rewards all the way up to £1,000 donation.
Matthew explained, “We shot the film in Frome and the Brecon Beacons and we’re now in the post-production stage – with any luck it’ll be released at Halloween as we have a lot of distribution interest, but only if we get it finished in time!
“As the film is becoming a much bigger beast than we imagined (and funnier!) we need a little boost to our post budget – so we’ve started a Kickstarter campaign which will run until the end of July. Our last feature, Infinitum: Subject Unknown, was released in cinemas in the U.S and is now being sold in pretty much every country in the world.
“This could be fun for local people to get involved with! There is the potential for some screenings in the local area with Q&As.”
