Local radio broadcaster, Jenna Myles, has been shortlisted in the annual National Community Radio Awards for her shows on Frome FM.
From hundreds of entries, submitted by community radio stations across the UK, Jenna has made the five-person shortlist for the ‘Newcomer’ award, which recognises outstanding achievement for people new to the radio in the past 12 months.
After founding the popular blog ‘Somerset cool’, which celebrates the unique places, people and events happening all across the county, Jenna decided to bring it to life on her monthly talk show ‘Somerset cool live’ – and that’s not all. She created and presented a 24-hour non-stop radio broadcast, to raise money for Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue and Lurcher SOS. The show attracted a global audience and raised £2,500 for the charities. Channel 4 television also visited Frome FM, to film Jenna’s charity auction collaboration with local cake sculptor, Zoe Burmester.
Jenna said, “I’m over the moon to be shortlisted for these national awards. It’s great to be able to celebrate community radio and fly the flag for Somerset and Frome FM. I’m really looking forward to the awards evening at the end of October, when the overall winner will be revealed.”
Frome FM say, “If you have an idea for a show, would like to become a member of Frome FM’s programme team, or would like to volunteer to help others make programmes at the station, we can’t wait to hear from you! Email hello@frome.fm
