A group of eager young radio trainees have officially hit the airwaves with their debut broadcast on Frome FM at the halfway point of a 12-week Introduction to Radio training course.
Guided by a dedicated team of Frome FM volunteers, Radio Z has gained hands-on experience in using studio equipment, planning content, hosting, conducting interviews and producing engaging community radio segments.
Director and course lead, Tim Hardy, said, “We are thrilled to give our trainees the opportunity to get into the studio and share their voices with the community. It’s incredible to see how much this great bunch of super young people have gelled together and grown during their training. Their show is a testament to their hard work.
“Radio Z will air their live show on Saturday 14th of December at 9am on 96.6FM. While there is more to learn, the group is already buzzing with ideas for future broadcasts.”
Frome FM is due to launch another 12-week training course in February, offering more aspiring broadcasters the chance to step into the studio.
Tim said, “We will have a good range of Christmas shows during the festive period including live music recorded in Frome from Trio Paradis, the Frome Youth Choir Christmas concert at Christ Church, and Ross Morris, a classical guitarist, along with the Frome Town Band. This will be aired on the fortnightly show All About Frome on Sunday 22nd December from 1pm to 2pm and on Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24th December, from 12pm to 1pm, hosted by Rupert Kirkham and Julia Wellard.
“Roger Bell will be doing live shows on the Monday 23rd and Christmas Day, 25th December, from 6pm to 7pm to get you into the festive mood.”
Listeners can catch broadcasts live on 96.6FM, online at Frome.FM, or through smart speakers.
