Earlier this month, Frome FM welcomed a legend of British music to its new studios in the Town Hall.
Bruce Thomas, who was former bass player with Elvis Costello and the Attractions, visited the station to record an exclusive show with Different Sounds presenter, Ian Leak.
Ian, whose Different Sounds show airs monthly every fourth Saturday, has interviewed a number of respected and well known musicians in the past, including Frome’s own Huey Morgan, Woody from Madness, John Grant, Kurt Wagner and Will Gregory from Goldfrapp.
Ian says,
“I was absolutely delighted when Bruce offered to come over to Frome from his home in Wiltshire to pre-record a special show for the station. He is one of this country’s finest bass players and has lots of fascinating stories to tell about his career in music.”
Along with the Attractions, Bruce has also played with numerous other people including Sir Paul McCartney, Billy Bragg and Suzanne Vega.
Ian continues,
“The two hour show just flashed by. Bruce was a brilliant guest. He was warm, hugely entertaining and candid about a career, which began in the early 70s when he was a member of Quiver. He also brought over a selection of songs to play, which have influenced him.”
Bruce is also a highly respected writer and has written books on Manchester United and Bruce Lee.
“Frome FM is a genuinely brilliant station and a fantastic resource for the town. The fact that Bruce and others have done shows with Frome FM and praised its professionalism and output is a testament to the numerous volunteers who work really hard to give the town something both unique and to be proud of. We have fantastic music shows, live magazine programmes on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes and breakfast shows both weekdays and Saturday mornings. There’s much, much more too. The people of Frome should give it a try.”
Bruce isn’t the only British music legend appearing on the station in the coming weeks. Last week Ian and his producer, Alex Hawkins, ventured over to Pennard House in East Pennard, to interview Chris Difford from Squeeze. This show will air in August.
The Bruce Thomas show will air on Saturday 15th July at 8pm. Tune in to 96.6FM locally or www.frome.fm
