THE Frome Good Afternoon Choir saw goodbye to 2021 with their Christmas Celebration in Holy Trinity Church and are now warming up their vocal cords for 2022.
The choir reports, “We were led by our conductor Matt Finch (wearing a most fetching Santa hat) to entertain our audience of family and friends. We joined in the singing of popular carols as well as special items performed by the choir.
“Everyone agrees these past months have been difficult. Yet all over the country it seems you can’t keep a good choir down! Groups have sung out-of-doors, in gardens and parks. Choirs have practised old favourites and learned new songs online.
“It’s been fun, but truthfully never quite as good as singing together in our regular meeting places. So, for the Good Afternoon Choir as for many others, the chance to sing with a real audience this December felt very special.
“Victoria, an alto and member of the choir since it began in 2017, commented that Christmas always feels one step closer when we sing with an audience at this time of year.
“There are 19 Good Afternoon Choirs across the West of England and the members choose the local charity they will support through their fundraising concerts. Frome members chose the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, and a collection of £239.50 was taken at the concert.
“Similar events are planned throughout 2022 in support of this same wonderful organisation.
“Our 2021 concert ended with us sharing our Christmas wishes, as well as our hopes for a healthy and peaceful New Year.
“The Frome Good Afternoon Choir hopes to start singing again on Monday 10th January with Matt. New members are welcomed at any time. You do not need to audition, and there is no charge to attend your first choir rehearsal.”
