FROME is once again being singled out as a high speeding area after April sees National Speed Check Week pick up multiple offenders in the town.
Recent speed checks at Styles Hill, Frome, saw a motorist recorded by police every ninety seconds for the duration of the checks, with hundreds now having been recorded in this part of town.
European national speed check week is taking place all over Europe during April and after that, the Avon and Somerset Police will be carrying out a further three weeks of high profile checks.
Ashley Reay, Mendip Community Speed Watch coordinator said, “The knowledge that once again Frome has been singled out as an area that has high speeding issues is a fact no one should be proud of. Despite notifications in the press of where and when speed enforcement speed checks are to made, Facebook notifications, other social media warning of forthcoming checks, speeding goes on unabated.
“The simple equation is that speed enforcement units are visiting Frome in ever-increasing numbers as will be a team of special officers tasked to assist with speeding issues. These measures, coupled with new nighttime equipment, are going to see many more Frome motorists either getting points on their licences or visits to court.
“Community Speed Watch and the police are totally frustrated as to the seeming lack of reductions in speeding. Even more so when the offer to come and talk to the Frome council about speeding in the town was passed up by the council, without even bothering to reply. It makes you think that very few in Frome, except a dedicated few, cares anything at all about road safety.”
