The September meeting of Frome Ladies Club was opened by the Chairman, Christine Cornaby, who introduced the speaker being Stewart, who gave a fascinating and hilarious account of his life.
Stewart told the members he had been born in Batheaston, where his family had lived for hundreds of years. Stewart said he was still living in the village and occupied one of a pair of cottages left by his grandmother, whilst his mother lives in the other cottage. Stewart compared her to the television character Mrs Bucket while he was more like Steptoe, due to his love of collecting objects unwanted by their original owners, but which he felt still had a value. Stewart had saved many of the items from being placed in a skip.
For many years Stewart worked for British Gas at Sydney Wharf, Bath, and in his spare time operated a mobile disco in the area and was responsible for the entertainment at countless social events, weddings, engagements, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Stewart played various tracks for the members to illustrate by music his lifestyle and beliefs. He was thanked by Shirley Smith.
Refreshments were served by hostesses Christine Potter, Monica Price, Carol Cheventre and Cynthia Smith.
The raffle for September was for the club’s charity for the year, MS Society Bath and District Group. Thirty-five prizes were on the table and raised a goodly amount for the charity.
The next meeting, to be held on 31st October, will be a Silent Auction and members are asked to bring along unwanted items to be auctioned in aid of our charity.
