A Meeting of Frome Ladies Club was held on the 31st July when Chairman, Christine Cornaby presided and introduced Graham Harding who gave an interesting talk on his life and love of the ukulele and banjo.
He had a wealth of knowledge on the life and times of George Formby who, apparently, was a favourite of Her Majesty the Queen. Graham sang a selection of George Formbys most famous and popular songs including Leaning on the Lamppost and When I’m Cleaning Windows. Vote of Thanks was given by Christine Cornaby.
Recent speakers have included Paul Millard of the Freewheelers Blood Bikes, Richard Bush talking on the German Occupation of Guernsey and Stewart Shepherd, disc-jockey, who gave members a music quiz interspersed with anecdotes from his life and bygone days.
In recent months, club members have taken part in a variety of activities and trips including Bristol Hippodrome to see Kinky Boots, a skittles evening at the Chester Club, a visit to Shepton Mallet Prison, the Poppy Factory at Richmond, coach trip to Weymouth and also Hampton Court Flower Show. Future events will include a visit to a glass-blowing studio in Langport and a Christmas shopping trip to Reading.
The next meeting will be held on 28th August when the speaker will be Adelaide Brown who will entertain with her flute. We are also having a cake stall to raise money for our Charity of the Year, the Freewheelers Blood Bikes, so gifts of cakes to sell would be appreciated. Anyone interested in joining Frome Ladies should ring Christine Cornaby on 300641, who will give all details.
