FOLLOWING a tough defeat last week, Frome Ladies 1s was looking to continue their run of form at home as they hosted Royal Wootton Bassett 2s.
Frome began the game with a point to prove, and quickly obtained a short corner following a foul in the D by RWB. Lottie Cublaith provided the injection which was then struck by Francesca Slay and turned in by Karen Moore, giving Frome the lead.
RWB then fought back to obtain a goal that got a lucky bounce, dinking over Grace Rudlin. Frome frustrated at their mistake were determined to not concede a second goal, pushed straight on the attack. Frome showed great interlinking play by Rachel Chedge, to Jo Brooks-Scully on her right and Lisa Howsam on her left, so Frome had multiple channels to utilise. Lisa Gagiano then struck her first of the game to give Frome a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, both teams went out in search of a goal, and Lisa Gagiano quickly provided this with her second of the game. Frome’s momentum took a dent when Juantelle Matthews received a stick to the chin (she later received five stitches), resulting in Frome being down to 11 for the remainder of the game.
Hollie-Jayne Withey provided both excellent defensive cover but also surging runs down the right, leaving her opposing player playing catch up. Lisa Gagiano then provided Frome’s fourth goal of the game. Consistent defending from Mandy Broadway and Rebekah Ball helped cement that Frome was comfortable in control.
In the final quarter of the game, Frome had several great opportunities, but could not convert. As the whistle blew, Frome players were elated with smiles all around. Excellent game played by both teams, thank you to all those involved.
Final Score: Frome Ladies 1s: 4 Royal Wootton Bassett 2s: 1

Next week Frome 1s take on an in-form Devizes at Devizes Leisure Centre.
