Frome 1st 4 – 3 Marlborough 2nds
Frome 1st travelled away to Marlborough a team situated just below them in the league. The away disadvantage did not seem to bother Mackinder who very quickly put Frome in the lead by scoring twice.
A bit shell-shocked, Marlborough settled and pulled one back, which only spurred the Frome team on again allowing Matthews to score once more before half-time.
Marlborough restructured after half-time and started a come back, putting the Frome defence under constant pressure. Rudlin controlled her defence well but Marlborough broke through and scored another, giving them hope of getting a draw. But Mackinder was having none of it and answered with Frome’s 4th and although Marlborough managed to get a late 3rd, Frome left with the points.
Frome 2nds 5 – 1 Corsham 3rds
Frome 2nds played their penultimate against local rivals Corsham and took a while to take control. Always a tough game, Corsham came with a determination that took Frome by surprise and managed to concede an own goal early in the first half that gave Corsham the encouragement to keep pushing. Frome looked disjointed, but Betty Restorick managed to score an equaliser before half-time to draw the game level again.
A good team talk produced some tactical changes which saw the Frome side attack Corsham with a different emphasis. Slowly breaking down the Corsham defence and Frome created opportunities in the D that gave Juliet Bath the chance to crack in 2 superb goals from open play. Betty Restorick, spurred on, added another 2 before the final whistle which secured the game and allowed the league champions to be victorious in the end.
