Frome Ladies Cricket teams have just finished their inaugural season and had a respectable start to the season, winning 50% of their matches, but more importantly, developing new skills and knowledge along the way.
The focus of the 2018 season was to promote ladies cricket and encourage women of all experiences, to take part and have a go at softball cricket.
Ladies cricket continued through the winter with indoor matches played at Frome Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoons against teams from Bath, Midsomer Norton and Beckington in the BANES women’s indoor league arranged by Somerset Cricket Board. The fast-paced indoor game presented a different challenge for the Frome team and they look forward to building on their experiences and knowledge for the forthcoming season.
Kathy Dredge, captain, said “The 2019 season will see them focus on developing a committed squad that enjoys the game of cricket. They will be part of Softball ‘Smash It League’ again and we look forward to some competitive friendlies this season and also the introduction of hardball cricket”.
John Cox trains the ladies team at Frome Cricket Club and will be joined by Ryan Gullock this season. Training takes place on Friday evenings 6.30pm to 7.30pm. If you would like to join the ladies cricket team, please contact Nick Larder, club secretary on 01373 465382.
Watch out for the Bubbles and Bats evening on 13th June, which is an introduction to rocket for ladies to come along, enjoy a glass of Prosecco and a game of cricket.
