Each year Lions Clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups.
This art contest for children encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace.
The posters are judged on creativity, originality and portrayal of the theme at club, district and multiple district levels in the British Isles with the multiple district winner eventually going forward to the international contest.
This year two schools in Frome accepted the invitation to participate. Students from The Steiner Academy and Selwood Academy submitted their ideas on this year’s theme, Journey Of Peace.
The posters were judged by three judges; Wendy Woods, a retired deputy headteacher and artist in her own right who is currently working with glass, and whose husband is a member of the Lions Club of Frome; Mary Caron-Courtney, another retired teacher, who trained as an art teacher and is currently working at the Holbourne Museum in Bath; and Lion Sally Marsh, the past District Governor of Lions District 105W.
They had a hard time deciding on an overall winner and after much deliberation, they finally decided on Amaya from the Steiner Academy as the winner whose poster will now go forward to the district final to be held later this year.
Following the judging an exhibition of the winner and short listed entries, took place in Frome Library.
The Lions would like to thank the three judges as well as Studio Prints of Frome who generously donated prizes for the winners and runners up as well as framing the winning entry.
